SmackFest 2010
What is SmackFest 2010?
- A season-long Postal Dual Meet between Mountain View Masters and Academy Bullets Masters in Aurora, Illinois
- January 1, 2010 through May 31, 2010
- Swimmers’ Short Course Yards times from USMS-sanctioned swim meets during this period will be submitted for scoring at the end of the season, and a winning team determined
- Ideally, this will become an Annual Event between MVM and ABM.
Why?
- Encourage Team Members to participate in USMS-sanctioned events
- Support for Pacific and Illinois Masters Swimming and USMS
- Good Karma for making a run at USMS Club of the Year
- Develop Team Spirit and Camaraderie
- Development of New Individual Skills in a supportive environment
- Develop a relationship with a sister club
- They’re just as much fun as we are!
The Rules
- 2010 USMS Rules will apply
- At the end of the season, swimmers will submit best times from up to 5 individual events for scoring. The individual events are:

- 100, 200 and 400 IM
- 50, 100 and 200 Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly
- Special Note—if a swimmer ages up during the season, they are still limited to submitting a maximum of 5 individual event times.
- Relay participation is unlimited. The Relay events are:
- 200, 400 and 800 Free Relays
- 200 and 400 Medley Relays
- Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Relays will be scored
- Leadoff legs from any relay may be counted as an individual event if an official time is available
- Scoring through 16 places in each event:
- 1st Place—17 points
- 2nd Place—15 points
- 3rd Place—14 points
- 4th Place—13 points
- 5th Place—12 points
- And so on down to 16th Place—1 point
- Points are doubled for Relays
- Virtually every swim submitted by every swimmer will score points.
What Events/Meets are Eligible?
- Any USMS-Sanctioned short course yards swim meet between January 1, 2010 and May 31, 2010.
- Both Pacific and Illinois Masters LMSCs have lots of meets, but any meet in the country is fair game, including 2010 SCY Nationals at Georgia Tech in May.
- Sorry—no converted meter times will be accepted.
- Although not a Swim Meet per se, the TAM Jon Steiner Postal Mile (1650 Free) will count.
- As long as it is swum after January 1, 2010
Tracking and Updates
- Results from swim meets will be posted and submitted to the coaching staffs of both Teams.
- A running score will be kept throughout the season
- Event placings may change, depending on how many times a swimmer swims an event, and how much they improve.
- Individual and Relay placings and Team scores will be finalized at the end of May, after SCY Nationals at Georgia Tech.
The Trophy
- Does anyone have an idea for a Perpetual Trophy for the Winning Team?
- Coolness Factor is very important!
- The Stanley Cup seems to be otherwise occupied…
